NABH
About the NABH accreditation..
National accreditation Board for Hospital & Healthcare Provides (NABH) is a constituent board of Quality Council of India (QAI) to set up guidelines for hospitals & healthcare providers for quality healthcare services.
Why it is important for hospital..
- Usually, a hospital is certified by local authority and no standard model is followed for quality healthcare services.
- Also, infrastructure & man power of many hospitals is not up to the mark. Which lower down the quality of healthcare service in our country.
NABH guide & verify the quality, infra, signage for patients patient rights, doctor’s responsibility and many more to improve hospital’s standard and quality of services.
- Patient consider the accreditation as a guarantee of good healthcare services. So, foot fall of the patient increase with this accreditation.
- Rate of NABH accredited hospital is higher in CGHS & other cashless rate lists than private hospital.
Why many hospitals are not interested in getting this accreditation..
- It is lengthy process.
- It cost more money than running hospital without accreditation.
- Many changes in infrastructure and previous design of hopital is required which is again cost effective.
- Certified manpower like, Nurses, Technicians, Attendants, RMOs is suggested. Which again increase the burden of running a hospital.
- Equipment, use of hospital premises, signage, patient rights, doctor’s responsibility any many more things discourage the doctors to go for this accreditation.
- Also, as per current survey, rates of organization helping to get this accreditation is too high than expected as it is compulsory for cashless hospitals. Which suddenly increases their demand in this field.
- Annual maintenance cost of this certification is also too high for small hospitals.
Future of NABH accreditation..
- In coming days, many be this will be not only compulsory for cashless hospitals but also all private hospitals. So, it is better for hospitals to go for this accreditation as soon as possible as anyway they they have to do that.

QAI
QAI was set up to create an ecosystem of education, training, quality improvement and accreditation/ certification. We believe that this organisation would provide a platform to stakeholders including professionals and organisations, associated with quality in any way, to share their wisdom and knowledge in order to make its Vision realised. This will further provide tremendous opportunities to all concerned to learn and contribute in improving organisations engaged with QAI. Different activities would be initiated under different verticals in a manner that they remain independent of each other. QAI aims to operate globally. One of the vertical set up within QAI is the Centre for Accreditation of Health and Social Care (CAHSC). It is responsible to run various accreditation/ certification activities in health and social car.
